Xarelto Bellwether Trials Given The Green Lightadmin
A Xarelto bellwether trial was slated to start earlier this week in a historic litigation that targets plaintiff who took this blockbuster blood thinner and then went on to suffer gastrointestinal and intracranial bleeding. The trial, slated to be held in Louisiana’s federal court will handle the case of a security guard named Joseph Boudreaux who was prescribed the drug for a heart condition he was suffering from. Mr. Boudreaux then went on to suffer gastrointestinal bleeding just 30 days after taking the medication faithfully, and had to be taken to hospital for a series of procedures such as multiple blood transfusions and heart operations.
16,000 Xarelto Lawsuits
The makers of Xarelto, Bayer, Janssen pharmaceuticals, and its parent company Johnson & Johnson may be the potential defendant to over 16,000 lawsuits filed by plaintiff who may have suffered complications or died after taking the anticoagulant. However, the drug maker, through its spokesman is standing its ground, stating that the drug’s efficacy as well as its risk-benefit analysis was consistent with what they discovered during clinical trials.
Attorneys representing the thousands of plaintiff are alleging that the Xarelto pharmaceutical manufacturer obscured information regarding the increased bleeding risk posed by the medication to certain patients due to financial interests.
Should this first trial be successful, it will set the pace for other cases with regard to what amount of payout plaintiff should expect as well as raising awareness about the dangers of this widely used medication.
Judge Ellon Presiding in Xarelto Trials
Judge Ellon E. Fallon, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana is the presiding judge for this case, and the plaintiff is represented by Andy Birchfield of the Beasley Allen law firm. In addition to this suit, other bellwether trials are slated to start in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas in May, June and July respectively.
